This week I became an adult
Many milestones have passed that signify the rite of passage into adulthood: being old enough to vote and drink. Getting my first paycheck. Buying my first car all on my own. Moving to SF and getting my own apartment. Traveling for work. Hiring people. Getting married. Having children. Buying a house. Somehow, none of these things really made me feel like an ADULT. Sure, I felt like I had responsibilities, commitments, etc., but I always felt like I was going to be asked if I had my signed permission slip from my parents.
Well, this week that all changed. This week we did two things that have officially made me feel like an adult. (read: OLD) 1) we refinanced our house and 2) had our wills drawn up. I guess having to plan who gets your stuff when you kick it will do that to a person.

My little gentleman
So, this morning as we are scurrying about trying to get out of the house, Zoe misplaced her Ariel doll that she was planning on bringing for show and tell. It was a little doll that you can change from mermaid into princess with the switch of an outfit. Needless to say, Zoe was quite upset about this, crying and carrying on. Jonah (my one year old) looks at her with a concerned expression, walks over to the tissue box, takes a tissue and hands it to Zoe. My sweet, sweet boy. (We did end up finding Ariel, so all ended quite nicely.)

Independence
Zoe is having a sleep over at her grandma’s house tonight…it was her idea and she’s been so excited about going. She packed her own bag this morning, including about a dozen pairs of panties. We were hugging goodnight and I was feeling a little separation anxiety of my own. She was totally fine. Then, as we drove away, she blew me a kiss.

Poke, poke, poke, poke
Yesterday I completed my immunization series that I need for my trip to India: Typhoid, Hep A and B, Tetanus, and Polio. My younger sister Theresa is getting married there in the beginning of February. I’m really excited to go, but I’m leaving my two sweet kids and hubby behind in the states and that definitely makes me anxious. We only have a week or so to practice video chat via Skype, so I guess we better get busy.
Theresa’s fiance’s family are from Mumbai, and the wedding will follow the traditions of the Bunt community.
I have two salwar kameez so I don’t stick out too much. (haha..as if the fact that I tower over everyone and have blond hair won’t be a bit of a giveaway.)
So, this trip has finally prompted me to actually start my blog so my friends and family can follow along with my trip…I will try to be as diligent as possible with postings. But I’m a newbie to this so we’ll see.

Hello world!
Your first question is probably, “Why bubblegum universe?” Well, I’ll tell you.
When I was in college, I developed a theory about the people we meet along our journey through life. Why is it that some people you meet you have a lasting, life long connection with that lasts in spite of distance or time apart, while others you may have an intense but finite relationship with? Well, imagine that everyone’s soul is like a wad of bubblegum floating through space. Some are big, juicy, pink wads of gum, while others are small, over-chewed, tough little pieces with no spring left in them.
As we meet people and our souls of gum bump and mush into one another, they stick together. As time and circumstances take us where they will, our wads of gum pull apart. A string remains between the two souls, getting thinner and thinner as time and distance increases. If the two types of gum are too different, or the gum has become too tough and inelastic, the string will snap after a short distance comes between them. But there are those souls where the connection remains, regardless of distance or time passed. After a while, we are in the midst of a tangled web consisting of our connections to those we love.
So that’s my theory. So I named my blog after it. Welcome.
“Our souls have touched, and though we are far away we are still connected.”
